EC decides to increase security deposit in Upazila Parishad polls

The sixth Upazila Parishad election will be held in May. The Election Commission (EC) has decided to increase the security deposit for the post of chairman from Tk10,000 to Tk1,00,000, and for the post of vice chairman from Tk5,000 to Tk75,000.

At the same time, the EC decided to eliminate the requirement for independent candidates to submit 250 voters' signatures.

These decisions were approved at the commission meeting on Tuesday. At the end of the meeting, the EC Secretary Jahangir Alam told reporters about these decisions.

Jahangir Alam said, "The security deposit of the chairman candidates in the upazila parishad election has been increased to Tk1 lakh. At the same time, the commission has approved a proposal of Tk75,000 for the post of female vice-chairman.”

The first phase of voting will be held on May 4, the second phase on May 11, the third phase on May 18 and the fourth (final) phase on May 25.
