The Election Commission has removed Debi Chanda, the deputy commissioner of Habiganj, who was acting as the Returning Officer for the election scheduled for January 7. In this regard, Md. Mizanur Rahman, the deputy secretary of the EC, signed a letter and sent it to the senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration on Monday. According to the letter, a decision was made to hold the 12th parliamentary elections in a fair and unbiased way. The letter further stated that the EC requested the ministry to appoint a suitably competent officer to the role.

হবিগঞ্জের জেলা প্রশাসক (ডিসি) দেবী চন্দকে প্রত্যাহার করার নির্দেশ দিয়েছে নির্বাচন কমিশন (ইসি)। জনপ্রশাসন মন্ত্রণালয় সোমবার (২৫ ডিসেম্বর) এই নির্দেশনা দিয়ে ও স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ে চিঠি পাঠিয়েছে ইসি। জনপ্রশাসন মন্ত্রণালয়কে দেওয়া চিঠিতে বলা হয়, দ্বাদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচন সুষ্ঠু ও নিরপেক্ষভাবে অনুষ্ঠানের লক্ষে হবিগঞ্জ জেলা প্রশাসককে প্রত্যাহার করার জন্য নির্বাচন কমিশন সিদ্ধান্ত জানিয়েছে। হবিগঞ্জ জেলা প্রশাসককে প্রত্যাহার করে তদস্থলে উপযুক্ত কর্মকর্তা পদায়ন করার জন্য নির্দেশিত হয়ে অনুরোধ করা হলো। স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ে দেওয়া চিঠিতে চাঁদপুরের মলতল (উত্তর) ও মাদারীপুরের ডাসার থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) এবং গাজীপুরের কলীগঞ্জ থানার পরিদর্শক রাজীব চক্রবর্তীকে প্রত্যাহারের নির্দেশ দেয় ইসি।
