EC introduces online application for journalists and observers’ cards

The Election Commission (EC) has introduced a digital system for issuing journalist and observer cards for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election and referendum, allowing applicants to apply online for the first time.

EC Public Relations Director Md Ruhul Amin Mallik confimed the development to reporters on Thursday (January 8), saying, "Unlike previous elections where applicants had to submit requests in person at the EC or returning officer’s office, the new online system will save time and reduce administrative costs."

Under the new process, domestic media personnel can apply on the EC website pr.ecs.gov.bd, upload required documents, and, once approved, download their journalist cards. Domestic observers can also download their cards and vehicle stickers directly from the portal.

Applicants must submit a copy of their office application, ID card, national identity card, and other required documents. Freelance journalists are required to provide a valid PID card.

The 13th national parliamentary election is scheduled for February 12.
