The Election Commission (EC) has expressed disagreement with multiple recommendations made by the Electoral Reform Commission (ERC).

In a letter sent to the Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Ali Riaz, on March 17, the EC expressed concerns that implementing certain proposals could undermine its independence.

The EC objected to 9-10 recommendations, including the suggestion to establish an independent commission to determine parliamentary constituency boundaries. The EC views this as "unnecessary", emphasizing that constituency boundaries should be redrawn based on the number of voters, population, and territorial integrity.

Another key point of contention is the proposed formula for redelineating constituencies, which the EC argues would disproportionately increase the number of seats in urban areas.

Additionally, the EC has opposed the recommendation to certify election results within 48 hours, asserting that the gazette publication already serves as the official certification. The Commission also disagreed with proposed changes to its accountability framework and the punishment of commissioners, stating, "The existing Supreme Judicial Council is sufficient for handling such matters."

The EC further objected to the suggestion that commissioners should face court proceedings long after elections and raised concerns over the National Identity Card Service, recommending that it remain under the Election Commission's authority.
