EC makes bank account of agent mandatory in nomination paper

The Election Commission (EC) has made it mandatory to include the bank account number of the election agent appointed by a candidate, alongside the candidate's own account, when submitting information related to election expenses. To this end, the Election Conduct Rules, 2008 have been amended.

A notification in this regard was issued on Wednesday.

Earlier, in a notification issued on September 15, the Election Commission stated that the relevant provisions of the Election Conduct Rules, 2008 had been amended under the powers conferred by Article 94 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972.

As a result of the amended provision, the provision to mention the account number of the candidate or the candidate's appointed election agent, along with the information regarding the bank account for election expenses, has been added to Form-1 of the nomination paper.
