EC publishes draft of updated voter list
The Election Commission (EC) has released the draft of the supplementary updated voter list in all election offices nationwide, giving voters the opportunity to raise objections until August 21.
According to EC sources, data from over 60 lakh voters was collected through a door-to-door campaign, leading to the addition of around 44 lakh new voters to the updated roll.
After the objection period ends, the final voter list will be prepared on August 31, and the election schedule will be announced by October 31. Anyone who turns 18 at least one month before the announcement will also be included in the final list.
As per the latest data, the total number of voters in the country has now surpassed 12 crore 37 lakh.
Meanwhile, today marks the final day to appeal against the redrawing of parliamentary constituencies. The draft, published on July 30, proposed boundary changes—both minor and major—for 39 of the 300 constituencies, with objections accepted until August 10.
Today is also the last date for domestic election observer organizations to submit their applications.
The EC Secretary is expected to hold a press conference soon to announce the number of new voters added to the updated list.
