EC ready to conduct fair elections, says Commissioner Sanaullah

Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah has stated that the Election Commission (EC) is fully prepared to conduct the upcoming 13th National Parliament election in a free, fair, and credible manner.

He made the remark at the inauguration of a workshop titled “Building Bridges: Regional Electoral Governance and Citizen Observation Exchange” in Gulshan on Saturday (November 22).

The Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), an independent and nonpartisan non-governmental organisation working to ensure free and fair elections in Asia, organised the workshop.

He highlighted that misuse of social media and artificial intelligence will be a major challenge for ensuring a smooth election.

Calling the election historic, he expressed hope that it would reinvigorate democracy in the country. “A record number of international observers are expected to monitor the election,” he added.

The EC has indicated that the election and referendum schedule will be announced about 60 days in advance, likely in the first week of December, for a vote expected in early February.
