EC restores candidacy of 58 applicants on second day of appeals

On the second day of appeals, the Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) reinstated the candidacy of 58 candidates who had challenged returning officers’ decisions, bringing the total number of candidates reinstated over two days to 109.

The hearings were held at the EC auditorium on Sunday (January 11). Seven appeals were rejected and six were kept pending, EC Public Relations Director Md. Ruhul Amin Mallik told reporters.

He added that the appeal of independent candidate Md. Mohiuddin from Munshiganj-3, which was kept pending on Saturday, was approved on Sunday.

The EC will continue hearing appeals numbered 141 to 210 on Monday (January 12), from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

On Saturday, the EC disposed of 70 appeals, approving 52—including validating the nominations of 51 candidates and cancelling one—while 15 appeals were rejected and three kept under consideration.
