EC secretary advises Tarek Rahman to appeal
Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed has advised Tarek Rahman, who is on hunger strike demanding registration for the Amjonotar Party, to appeal. He said, “Tarek Rahman is on hunger strike for the registration of Amjonotar Party. Whatever was to be conveyed from our side legally has been communicated through a letter. Now, if they wish, they may appeal and address the deficiencies.”
He made these remarks while speaking to journalists at the Election Commission building in Agargaon on Sunday.
The secretary added, “Appeal, amendment or extension of time—these are conventional practices. I hope he will end his hunger strike and proceed to resolve the issue legally.”
When asked where the appeal should be filed, he said, “The appeal will be submitted to the Commission Secretariat. Since all correspondence originates from there, it should be addressed to the Senior Secretary or the Secretary of the Commission.”
When asked how long they have to file the appeal, he said, “There is no specific time limit for appeal. It can be done now or even tomorrow. The final decision rests with him.”
In response to a question about considering the issue beyond legal provisions, the secretary said, “Nothing beyond the law. Filing an appeal is entirely lawful. If an application is submitted, whether the Commission will consider it or not will be decided later. We prefer that the issue be reviewed beyond narrow limitations.
