EC suspends AL's registration
The Election Commission (EC) has officially suspended the registration of the Awami League, according to Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
The decision was made during a meeting held on Monday evening (May 12) at the Election Commission Building in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The meeting was attended by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin, Election Commissioners Anwarul Islam and Abdur Rahmanel Masud, and other relevant officials.
This development follows an earlier government notification, which banned all activities of the Awami League until further notice, pending a trial.
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury confirmed this during a briefing after the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order's meeting.
He emphasized that the notification prohibiting Awami League's activities as a political organisation had already been issued, and it is now the responsibility of the authorities to enforce the ordinance.
