EC to postpone results announcement in 3 constituencies
The Election Commission has decided to postpone the announcement of results of three constituencies of the recently concluded 13th National Parliament elections. The constituencies are Sherpur-2, Chattogram-2, and Chattogram -4. The decision has been taken as there are court cases against the winning candidates in these constituencies. The announcement of their results will be postponed until the cases are disposed of.
On Thursday (February 12), three separate letters were issued by the EC in this regard.
The letter issued by the EC said that in light of the order dated February 3, 2026 of CPLA No. 441/2026 filed in the Appellate Division (extracted from Writ Petition No. 1174/2026 of the Hon'ble High Court Division), Mohammad Aslam Chowdhury, the candidate of Constituency 281, will be able to participate in the election as a rival candidate as usual. However, the Commission has decided to postpone the announcement of the results as there is a legal obligation to postpone the announcement of his results until the final disposal of the said case.
Similarly, it has been informed about Sarwar Alamgir, the candidate for Chattogram-2 constituency, that he is able to participate in the election in light of the order dated 03 February 2026 of CPLA No. 440/2026 (extracted from Writ Petition No. 1053/2026) filed in the Appellate Division. However, the Commission has decided that the publication of his election results will be suspended until the final disposal of the case.
Meanwhile, the letter issued regarding Sherpur-2 constituency candidate Mohammad Fahim Chowdhury says that he can contest the election in light of the order dated 03 February 2026 of CPLA No. 442/2026 (extracted from Writ Petition No. 1186/2026) filed in the Appellate Division. However, the Election Commission has decided that the final results of Mohammad Fahim Chowdhury's election will depend on the final order of that case.
