EC vowed to hold free, fair elections: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has called on all political parties to cooperate for a free, fair, and credible national election.
Speaking at a dialogue with parties at the Election Commission on Wednesday (November 19), he stressed that strict adherence to the election code of conduct is crucial for a smooth vote.
“A credible election is a promise to the nation from all parties, and the EC is committed to delivering it to the people,” he said, emphasising that violations of the code of conduct would undermine the process.
He added that the rule of law is essential for peaceful polls and political parties play a more significant role than law enforcement in ensuring election success.
The CEC also urged parties to encourage voter turnout and highlighted that the EC began consultations with parties immediately after taking office, though full dialogue was delayed due to the Election System Reform Commission’s work.
“The draft code of conduct has now been finalised based on party submissions and the commission’s recommendations,” he confirmed.
He concluded that coordinated efforts by political parties, voters, the EC, and law enforcement are key to delivering a credible and peaceful election.
