ECNEC approves 12 projects worth Tk 7,150 crore
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 12 projects involving an expenditure of Tk 7,150.21 crore. The entire cost of the approved projects will be met from the government’s own fund.
The information was disclosed in a press release on Monday, November 10, after the Ecnec meeting held at the NEC Conference Room in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The meeting was chaired by Chief Adviser and ECNEC Chairperson Dr Muhammad Yunus.
According to the Planning Commission, among the 12 approved projects, eight are new, two are revised, and two involve only time extensions without additional cost. The approved projects include two under the Ministry of Rural Development and Cooperatives — the Important Rural Infrastructure Development Project in Manikganj District and the Rural Infrastructure Development Project in Satkhira District.
One of the Agriculture Ministry’s projects is the Development of Small-Scale Irrigation Management in the Haor Areas of Kishoreganj and Netrokona Districts (Third Revised).
Among the two projects of the Ministry of Education are the Infrastructural Development of Gazipur Agricultural University and the Establishment of One Engineering College Each in Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi and Rangpur Divisions (Second Revised).
The project under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs is the Construction of the Independence Monument at Suhrawardy Udyan (Third Phase) (First Revised).
Three projects of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have been approved, including the Implementation of Unfinished Activities of the Completed Fourth Sector Programme on Essential Family Planning, Maternal, Child and Reproductive Health Services; the Integrated Development of the Management Activities of the Directorate of Health Education, NIPORT, and the Directorate of Nursing and Midwifery; and the Implementation of Essential Unfinished Activities of PFD, HEF, IFM, HRD and SWPMM.
A project under the Ministry of Defence is the Construction of ‘B’ Type Officers’ Residences at the Nirjhar Residential Area in Dhaka Cantonment.
The project under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges is the Fourth Time Extension (Second Revised) for the Construction of the Kalia Bridge over the Nabaganga River at the 21st kilometre of the Narail-Kalia District Highway.
The approved project under the Ministry of Industries is the BSCIC Industrial Park, Tangail (Third Revised).
In addition, nine more projects were approved at the meeting. The Planning Adviser informed that these include the Integrated Feasibility Study for the Development of Multilevel Educational Institutions and Strengthening the Education Engineering Department; the Development of Selected Non-Government Secondary Schools (First Revised); the Preservation and Development of the Graves of Martyred Freedom Fighters and Other War Heroes (First Phase) (First Revised); the Basic Self-Defence Training Project for Youth; the Skill Development of IT-Literate Youth through Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology Project; the Enhancement of Coastal Resilience through Technology-Based Forest Management Project; the Establishment of Agricultural Research Centre of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute in Meherpur Sadar and Strengthening of Research Activities (First Revised); the Dhaka City Neighbourhood Upgrading Project (DCNUP) (Second Revised); and the Enhancement of Technical and Technological Capacity of RAB (Second Revised).
