ECNEC approves 18 projects, including 1,560 flats for July Martyrs' families
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 18 projects worth Tk 15,383.51 crore, including a 1,560-flat construction project for July Martyrs' families in Mirpur and the third revision of Metro Rail Line-6.
Funding will come from Tk 9,451.84 crore from the government fund, Tk 5,609.70 crore from foreign loans, and Tk 379.31 crore from agency funds, the organisation confirmed this during a meeting, held at the NEC Conference Hall in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, today (December 1).
The meeting was chaired by Chief Adviser and ECNEC Chairman Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
Other approved projects include sustainable agricultural development in Chattogram, quality potato seed production and distribution, three gas exploration wells, 36 residential flats on NHA land, fire safety for the secretariat and Prime Minister’s residence, Sirajganj-Raiganj highway development, Narayanganj Green and Resilient Urban Development, autism and NDD services, Japan Human Development Scholarship Project, digital entrepreneur and innovative ecosystem development, Noakhali Science and Technology University academic and lab development, climate-responsive reproductive health and population services, healthcare and drug administration development, community clinic expansion, and Sonagazi 220 MW solar power project.
According to Planning Adviser Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud, ECNEC and Cabinet meetings will continue despite the national election schedule. However, the new secretariat building and a health sector project are still under review.
While corruption has not been fully eliminated, opportunities for contractor-related irregularities have been significantly reduced, the adviser said.
