ECNEC approves 8 projects worth BDT 14,000 crore

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved eight development projects with a total estimated outlay of BDT 14,041.21 crore.

Out of the total expenditure, BDT 10,494.21 crore will be sourced from the government's own funds, while BDT 3,550.44 crore will be provided as loans from development partners. Among the approved proposals, three are new projects, and five are revised projects.

The approvals were granted during an ECNEC meeting held at the Secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Tarique Rahman on Wednesday (July 22).

The meeting was attended by Minister of Finance and Planning Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury; Minister of Local Government, Rural Development Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; Minister of Industries, Textiles, Jute and Commerce Khandaker Abdul Muktadir; Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Md. Asaduzzaman; Minister of Home Affairs Salahuddin Ahmad; Minister of Disaster Management and Relief Asadul Habib Dulu; Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmood; and Minister of Water Resources Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee. State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Planning Md. Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, and other senior officials were also present.

The approved projects include the Universal Social Infrastructure Development-2 (GSIDP-2) (1st Revision) project, the Greater Dinajpur (Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh) Integrated Development Project, and the Rural Road Maintenance and Employment Project under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives. Under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, the 'Construction, Renovation and Development of Disaster Shelters (3rd Revision)' project was approved.

Under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, the 'Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway Construction (2nd Revision)' project received approval. Under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, approved initiatives include the 'Power Distribution System Development Project, Sylhet Division (3rd Revision)' as well as the 'Evaluation-cum-Development Well (Begumganj-5) and 2 Exploration Wells (Begumganj-6 and Sunetra-2) Drilling Project.' Additionally, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, approval was granted for the project titled 'Upgrading Existing Kidney Dialysis Centers to 50 Beds in Medical College Hospitals and Establishing 10-Bed Kidney Dialysis Centers in District Headquarter Hospitals (2nd Revision).'
