Students of Eden Mohila College staged a road blockade on Wednesday, December 3, around 11am on the Azimpur–Nilkhet road near Gate 2, demanding that the college remain reserved exclusively for women and that no academic departments be abolished. The blockade brought traffic on the busy road to a standstill.

Their five-point demands are as follows:

1. Eden must remain reserved solely for women.

2. No department of Eden Mohila College may be abolished.

3. The university must remain open 24 hours, not from 1pm to 7pm.

4. Eden must be kept as a higher education institution and intermediate programmes must not be introduced.

5. Eden College has the qualifications to be a women’s university and therefore cannot be reduced to a single faculty.

Police said that although the protesting students briefly left the road, they later resumed their blockade. Their sit-in caused heavy traffic congestion in the area, inflicting suffering on commuters.
