Edible oil prices surge by up to Tk 13 per litre
The Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association announced on Monday (October 13) that the retail price of bottled soybean oil has been increased by Tk 6 to Tk 195 per litre, while loose soybean oil will now sell for Tk 177 per litre, up Tk 3.
Palm oil recorded the highest jump—Tk 13 per litre, bringing the new price to Tk 163. The price of a five-litre bottled soybean oil container has been fixed at Tk 945.
The revised rates, effective October 14, come after a fresh meeting between refiners and the Ministry of Commerce.
The latest hike comes less than two months after a pricing dispute in August, when traders sought a Tk 10 increase per litre, but the government allowed only a Tk 1 adjustment.
