Educational institutions across the country reopen today (March 29) after remaining closed for 37 consecutive days due to a series of holidays, including Ramadan, Shab-e-Qadr, Eid-ul-Fitr and Independence Day.

Although the holiday period officially ended on Thursday, weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday meant that full academic activities resume from today.

Officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education confirmed the matter.

According to ministry officials, classroom activities were limited during the first three months of the year due to elections, Ramadan and Eid, resulting in learning gaps. Therefore, institutions have been instructed to resume classes in full swing after the break.

According to the annual holiday list and academic calendar, the Ramadan and Eid vacation was originally scheduled to begin on March 8.

However, following a writ petition filed by guardians and an order from the High Court, the government later decided to close government primary schools from February 19, causing the vacation to begin 17 days earlier.

Under the revised holiday schedule, primary and secondary schools, madrasas, colleges and technical institutions remained closed from February 19 to March 26.

Meanwhile, to address learning gaps in primary schools, the government has cancelled the first 10 Saturday weekly holidays after the Eid vacation, according to a directive from the Directorate of Primary Education.

However, no decision has yet been made regarding the cancellation of Saturday holidays in government and private secondary schools.
