In a statement issued on Sunday (May 3), the coalition said a truly effective media environment depends on protection from undue influence, along with a supportive legal framework and financial stability.
The statement was released as part of global observance of World Press Freedom Day.
The MFC diplomatic network in Bangladesh welcomed the government’s commitment to strengthening media freedom, while also highlighting the vital role of independent journalism in addressing the growing challenges of misinformation and disinformation in the digital age.
It said an enabling environment for media operations is essential for effective journalism, stressing that press institutions must be free from external pressure and interference.
In Bangladesh, the MFC network continues to work with government bodies, private sector actors and international partners to promote the rights, safety and independence of journalists and media workers across the country.
