BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned that efforts are underway to undermine democracy in Bangladesh, saying various conspiracies are ongoing after the people's uprising.

He made the remark at the capital's Zia Udyan on Friday morning (November 7), where BNP organised a ceremony to lay wreaths, offer prayers, and hold a monaajat at the grave of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

The programme ran from 10:20am to 10:50am.

"November 7, observed as National Revolution and Solidarity Day, inspires the path toward establishing a truly democratic state," he said in the programme.

Fakhrul said the day holds significance not only for BNP but also for people across the country, emphasizing that democracy cannot survive without safeguarding citizens’ rights.

He added that BNP will continue its efforts to ensure the establishment of the people’s voting rights.

When asked about a phone call from Jamaat-e-Islami’s deputy Amir, Fakhrul said, "The party had already discussed its position in a standing committee meeting and would adhere to that decision."

BNP leaders including Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Salauddin Ahmed, Prof. Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain, Chairperson’s adviser Aman Ullah Aman, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon, Abdus Salam Azad, and Dhaka North BNP convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu, along with leaders and activists from various levels of the party attended the programme.
