Efforts are underway to free photographer Shahidul Alam, who is being held in an Israeli prison, with help from Turkey, according to the office of Bangladesh’s Interim Government Adviser.
The information was shared in a post on the adviser's verified Facebook page on Friday morning (October 10).
The post stated that Turkish authorities are hopeful that Shahidul Alam could be brought to Ankara today via a special flight, although they could not guarantee this completely.
The information was confirmed by Bangladesh’s Ambassador in Ankara, Amanul Haque, on Thursday night.
It was also mentioned that after Shahidul Alam was illegally detained by Israeli authorities, Bangladesh's embassies in Jordan, Egypt, and Turkey were instructed to contact the foreign ministries of those countries and urgently work to secure his release.
The post further explained that the embassies are in constant contact with local authorities to ensure Shahidul Alam’s release.
Shahidul Alam, a well-known photographer and human rights activist from Bangladesh, was arrested by Israeli authorities, and the Bangladeshi government is working hard to gain international support for his freedom.
