Egg prices rise due to manipulation: Advisor Farida Akhter
Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhter believes that manipulation may be a factor in the recent rise in egg prices. She said, "Eggs will soon be declared essential products."
She made these comments while serving as the chief guest at a World Egg Day event at the Krishibid Institution in the capital's Khamarbari area on Friday.
Farida Akhter said, "Traders were claiming that there is a shortage of eggs. The price of eggs decreased slightly due to the news of imports. Then it can be understood that the increase in the price of eggs is manipulation."
"The syndicate is the main reason behind the increase in the price of eggs. Any form of manipulation cannot be accepted. However, increasing production and enhancing linkages with marginal farmers, as well as addressing feed prices, are being considered to reduce the cost of eggs," she added.
The advisor remarked that the rising price of eggs is influenced by media reporting. She said, "What is written in the media makes the market unstable. We consumers get restless too. The government is working with these issues in mind. Regular raids are going on in the market. Already the wholesale price is decreasing. The price will soon be within the purchasing power of buyers."
