Eid advance train tickets for May 26 go on sale today
Bangladesh Railway has begun selling advance train tickets for May 26 journeys ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, as part of a broader initiative to ensure safer and smoother travel for millions of holidaymakers returning home.
According to railway authorities, ticket sales for trains operating in the western region started at 8:00am on Saturday (May 16), while tickets for eastern region trains are scheduled to go on sale from 2:00pm.
To reduce passenger suffering, prevent ticketing irregularities and ease the purchasing process, all advance Eid train tickets are once again being sold exclusively online. Officials say the system is intended to avoid excessive crowds at station counters and allow passengers to purchase tickets conveniently from home.
Under the Eid travel management plan, Bangladesh Railway is selling advance tickets for five days ahead of the festival through a staggered schedule. Tickets for May 23 journeys were sold on May 13, while tickets for May 24 and May 25 were sold on May 14 and 15 respectively. Tickets for May 27 journeys will be available on May 17.
Railway authorities said each passenger will be allowed to purchase tickets only once for Eid advance travel, with a maximum limit of four tickets per transaction. Advance Eid tickets will not be refundable.
In addition, 25 per cent of non-AC seats will be sold as standing tickets from station counters on the day of travel in response to passenger demand.
Officials also said ticket sales for May 28, 29 and 30 journeys will depend on the sighting of the Eid moon and the final holiday schedule.
