Eid to be celebrated in five villages of Noakhali today

More than two hundred devout followers of the Qaderia Tariqa in five villages of Begumganj, Kabirhat and Sadar upazilas of Noakhali will celebrate Eid today (March 20).

This year too, in keeping with the culture that has been going on for almost a century, the people of these villages will celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr a day earlier.

They will celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr by offering Eid prayers in 10 mosques of the three upazilas today (March 20).

The villages are: Laxminarayanpur and Harinarayanpur villages of Noakhali Municipality, Rambhallabpur of Ghoshbag Union of Kabirhat Upazila, Basantabag and Fazilpur villages of Gopalpur Union of Begumganj Upazila. Eid congregation will be held in these villages at 8 am.

Followers of the Qaderia Tariqa claim that the Qaderia Tariqa was formed on the ideology of the great Pir Abdul Qadir Jilani (R.). Therefore, they fast a day earlier every year in line with Saudi Arabia. They also celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha.

Md. Siraj Mia, a follower of the Qaderia Tariqa of Gopalpur Union in Begumganj, said, "According to the path shown by our ancestors, we start fasting and celebrate Eid in line with Saudi Arabia. We will not make an exception this year either."

Noakhali Police Superintendent T. M. Mosharraf Hossain said that more than two hundred Muslims in five villages of three upazilas of Noakhali will celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr in line with Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries. The law enforcement agencies have made maximum preparations to ensure that their Eid celebration is peaceful.
