Eid-e-Miladunnabi holiday rescheduled to Sept 6
The government has officially rescheduled the public holiday for the observance of Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH) to Saturday, September 6, shifting it from the previously announced date of Friday, September 5.
A notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday (August 28) confirmed the change, citing that the Islamic month of Rabiul Awal began on August 26, making the 12th of Rabiul Awal — the date of Eid-e-Miladunnabi — fall on September 6 this year.
Eid-e-Miladunnabi (PBUH) marks the birth and death anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and is a significant religious occasion observed by Muslims across the country.
According to the notification, all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices will remain closed on the day.
However, the holiday will not apply to organizations engaged in emergency services such as electricity, water, gas, fire services, telecommunication, internet, postal services, hospitals, and transportation of medicines and medical supplies.
The Ministry further clarified that Bangladesh Bank will independently decide on the operational status of banks, while the Supreme Court will determine the schedule for court operations on that day.
This adjustment ensures that the holiday aligns with the correct religious calendar and facilitates proper national observance of the occasion.
