Eid-ul-Azha being celebrated in 40 villages in Chandpur
Residents of 40 villages in Chandpur celebrated Eid-ul-Azha on Friday, aligning their observance with Saudi Arabia, continuing a tradition that dates back nearly a century.
The Eid congregation began with the first prayer held at 8:00am in Hajiganj, led by Pirzada Arif Chowdhury Sadravi of Sadra Darbar Sharif. A second large gathering followed, led by religious scholar Abu Yahya Zakaria Madani.
Villagers from various parts of Chandpur, including Hajiganj, Sadra, Sameshpur, Alipur, Balakhal, Monihar, Kochua, and Shahrasti, participated in the Eid festivities, marking the occasion with communal prayers and preparations for Qurbani (animal sacrifice).
Pirzada Abu Yahya Md. Zakaria Al Madani explained that the practice of celebrating Eid and other Islamic festivals in line with Saudi Arabia was initiated in 1928 by the late Maulana Ishaq, a spiritual leader of the Sadra Darbar Sharif. Since then, thousands of his followers and like-minded devotees across the country have observed Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, and Eid-ul-Azha according to the Saudi lunar calendar.
“This year, Hajj concluded in Saudi Arabia, and Qurbani will take place there today,” said Pirzada Zakaria Madani. “Following that, we are also offering our sacrifices and celebrating Eid on the same day to maintain spiritual unity with the Muslim Ummah.”
