Eight arrested in Netrokona over filming, sharing obscene videos
Police have arrested eight members of a group in East Dhala upazila, Netrokona, on charges of filming obscene videos and circulating them on social media platforms including Facebook. Ten smartphones were seized from them during the operation. Police claim these phones contained over a hundred obscene videos recorded from 2025 until July 2 this year.
East Dhala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter on Friday, July 3.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, police conducted a raid at a fishery named 'Tangail' in the Shibpur area of Ghagra union and arrested seven men and one woman.
The arrestees are Sirajul Islam, 30; Shubho, 20; Sagar Mia, 20; Jewel Mia, 32; Mazijul, 25; Kajal Mia, 20; Habibur Rahman Habi, 40; and Monira Akhter, 30.
Police said two women and six to seven associates managed to flee during the raid. Preliminary checks of the 10 seized smartphones revealed the presence of over a hundred videos.
OC Abdullah Al Mamun said the arrestees had been working in an organised manner for a long time, recording videos on mobile phones and distributing them on social media platforms.
Police have filed a case under the Pornography Control Act against the eight arrestees and six others named, along with five to six unidentified individuals.
The eight arrestees have been produced in court. Police said operations are ongoing to arrest the absconding accused.
