Eight Chhatra League activists arrested over protest in Feni

Police have arrested eight activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League in connection with a protest procession in Feni, with a court sending them to jail after they were produced before it on Wednesday (September 16).

According to police, activists of the Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League and other banned affiliated organisations gathered around 1:30am on Wednesday near the western end of Hazari Road along the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Feni. They allegedly staged a protest procession and chanted slogans.

Police launched raids in different parts of Feni town after receiving the information and arrested the eight from the Salahuddin intersection area.

The detainees were identified as Fakhrul Islam, 23; Imam Hossain, 24; Shahidul Islam Swadhin, 23; Rohan Patowari, 23; Fakhr, 22; Md Tanim, 22; Golam Rabbi, 23; and Nur Islam, 22.

Feni Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Motaher Hossain filed a case over the protest, police said.

Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Feni Model Police Station, said, "Operations would continue to maintain law and order. Action would also be taken against those involved in activities that disrupt public order, as well as drug trafficking and other crimes."
