Eight former members of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) have been released on bail from Kashimpur Central Jail in connection with a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act over the 2009 mutiny.

The releases took place on Friday (May 1), with one inmate freed from the high-security unit and seven others from the jail’s Part-2 facility, according to prison authorities.

Jail Super Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed that the bail documents were verified before release. The inmates were freed after authorities ensured there were no other pending detention orders against them.

Family members were present at the prison gates to receive them.

Officials said the releases followed due legal process after the court granted bail in the explosives case linked to the mutiny.

The case is tied to the 2009 Bangladesh Rifles mutiny, which took place on February 25–26, 2009 at the force’s headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka. The incident left 74 people dead, including 57 army officers, marking one of the deadliest events in the country’s history.

Separate cases were filed over the mutiny, including murder and explosives charges. The trial in the murder case concluded in 2013, resulting in death sentences, life imprisonment, and various prison terms for hundreds of accused, while others were acquitted.
