The Amar Ekushey Book Fair, initially scheduled for December, has been postponed and will instead be held after the upcoming national election in February before Ramadan. Bangla Academy, the organiser of the event, issued a press release on Sunday, September 28, announcing the decision. Signed by Director General Professor Mohammad Azam, the notice said: “According to the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the upcoming Amar Ekushey Book Fair must be arranged after the national election. Accordingly, the dates fixed for the 2026 book fair are hereby postponed.” It added that new dates will be set later in consultation with publishers and other stakeholders.

ডিসেম্বর মাসে এবার অমর একুশে বইমেলা আয়োজনের সিদ্ধান্ত স্থগিত করা হয়েছে। আগামী ফেব্রুয়ারিতে রোজার আগে জাতীয় নির্বাচনকে সামনে রেখে এই সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়েছে। আজ রোববার (২৮ সেপ্টেম্বর)&nbsp; মেলার আয়োজক প্রতিষ্ঠান বাংলা একাডেমি এ সংক্রান্ত এক বিজ্ঞপ্তি প্রকাশ করেছে। বাংলা একাডেমির মহাপরিচালক অধ্যাপক মোহাম্মদ আজম সাক্ষরিত এ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে বলা হয়েছে, স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের সিদ্ধান্ত অনুযায়ী - ' আগামী অমর একুশে বইমেলা আসন্ন জাতীয় নির্বাচন পরবর্তী সময়ে আয়োজনের ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করতে হবে'। এ প্রেক্ষাপটে বাপুস ও সংশ্লিষ্ট অন্যদের মতামতের ভিত্তিতে বইমেলা ২০২৬-এর যে তারিখ নির্ধারণ করা হয়েছিল, তা স্থগিত করা হলো।' বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে আরো উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে, 'প্রকাশক ও অন্য অংশীজনদের পরামর্শ অনুযায়ী পরবর্তী সময়ে নতুন তারিখ ঠিক করা হবে।'
