Elderly man arrested for attempting to rape 2nd-class-child in Kurigram
Police have arrested an elderly man named Latif Uddin, 65, on charges of molesting and attempting to rape a second-class schoolgirl, 8, in Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram.
The incident took place in Uttar Kodalkati Terrashi village of Kodalkati union of the upazila on Sunday (May 31) afternoon. The arrested Latif Uddin is a resident of Mandalpara village of the union.
According to the family sources of the victim child, both his parents are daily wage laborers. In the morning, the child's father left the house to help distribute sacrificial meat for a non-governmental development organization (NGO). In the afternoon, the child's mother also went to get meat from the NGO.
While leaving, she locked the house and left the child sitting in front of the house to guard it. Taking this opportunity, Latif Uddin, a daily wage worker who was harvesting rice in front of the house, found the child alone and took him inside the house on the pretext of drinking water and tried to rape him. At that time, the child screamed in fear and ran away to his grandmother's house nearby and narrated the incident. Upon receiving the news, the child's parents and locals came and detained Latif Uddin.
Upon receiving the news, Rajibpur Police Station arrested Latif Uddin and brought him to the police station. Later, a case was filed against him by the child's family.
Rajibpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Musa Mia said that a case has been filed against the detained Latif Uddin under the Child Abuse and Attempted Rape Act. He will be sent to the Kurigram court on Monday.
