Elderly man held for 'rape' of minor

Police in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, have arrested a 65-year-old man named Kamal Uddin over allegations of raping a 6-year-old girl.

According to the victim’s family, the incident took place in the Minibazar area of Kakara Union in Chakaria upazila on Friday evening (May 1).

They alleged that the accused lured the victim to a tobacco kiln by offering to buy hir snacks, where she allegedly sexually assaulted him before fleeing the scene.

Family members later found the victim in critical condition and admitted her to Chakaria Government Hospital for treatment.

After receiving information about the incident, a team from Chakaria Police Station conducted a raid and arrested the suspect around 10pm from a relative’s house in the Palakata area of Chakaria municipality, where he had reportedly been hiding.

Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monir Hossain confirmed the arrest.

A case has been filed against Kamal Uddin at Chakaria Police Station in connection with the incident.
