Elderly man killed by drug-addict son in Cox's Bazar
An elderly man was killed after being attacked by his drug-addict son in the Moulvi Bazar area of Chakaria municipality in Cox's Bazar on Friday, May 22.
The deceased has been identified as Khalilur Rahman, 75, a local resident who was physically disabled, according to locals. Police have detained the accused son, Mohammad Minar.
Locals said Minar attacked his father with a sharp weapon on his way home after Juma prayers. Khalilur Rahman was critically injured, sustaining deep wounds on various parts of his body.
He was rushed to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared him dead. Hospital sources said he died from excessive bleeding.
Locals detained Minar as he tried to flee and handed him over to police.
Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Monir Hossain said Minar had long been addicted to drugs. A case had previously been filed against him for assaulting family members, and he had served several months in jail.
After being released on bail, Minar attacked his father on his way home after Friday prayers, the OC said. The body is being sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police have initiated a murder case.
