Elderly man killed, wife injured in suspected robbery in Jatrabari
An 80-year-old man was killed and his wife critically injured during a suspected robbery at their residence in the capital’s Jatrabari area early Tuesday.
The deceased, Ismail Hossain, lived on the first floor of a five-storey building on Ityadi Goli, Bibirbagicha. His wife, Saleha Begum, 75, sustained stab wounds to her right leg. She was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation.
According to their daughter, Salma Begum, the attackers broke into the apartment by cutting through a window grille around 4:00am. “They tied them up, beat them, and looted valuables,” she said while speaking to reporters at the hospital.
Neighbours informed the family after discovering the attack. Ismail was declared dead at DMCH at around 6:30am.
Inspector Md Farouk of the DMCH police outpost said the body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy. He confirmed that Jatrabari Police Station has been notified. Attempts to contact the officer-in-charge and the inspector (investigation) of the police station were unsuccessful.
