Elderly man shot dead by 'cow lifters' in Chattogram
An elderly man named Chandan Dey, 70, was shot dead by 'cow lifters' in Chandanaish, Chattogram.
The incident took place in Badur Para, Ward No. 1 of Chandanaish Municipality, police said early on Thursday (January 26).
Ilyas Khan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandanaish Police Station, confirmed the incident.
He said that a group of thieves in a Hayes microbus raided Chandan Dey's house at around 4:45am. When one of the two cows in his cowshed was being loaded into the microbus, Chandan came out of the house when the cows started barking.
At that time, he was seriously injured in the shots fired by the thieves. Locals rescued him and took him to the hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.
Police said a group of thieves attempted to steal two cows from Chandan’s cowshed. After being detected, they left behind the larger cow and fled with the smaller one. The miscreants also took two more cows from a nearby house.
There is panic in the area after the incident. Police said that a drive is underway to identify and arrest those involved.
