Elderly man stranded at zero point finally reunited with family
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has rescued an elderly man who was stranded at the zero line along the Bokshiganj border in Jamalpur following an alleged 'push-in' attempt by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). He was later handed over to his family on Thursday, June 11.
The elderly man was rescued from the no-man's land in front of pillar 1082 on the Kamalpur border around 11:00 am. He was identified as Shashti Chandra Barman, a resident of Chandlai village in Godagari upazila, Rajshahi. According to police and family sources, he had been missing for about two months.
He had been stranded at the zero line for nearly 24 hours. Tension grew in the local area following the incident, and a video that circulated on social media helped authorities identify him.
Family members contacted the BGB after seeing the video. Once his identity was confirmed, he was taken to Bokshiganj Police Station where relatives identified him.
The Officer-in-Charge of Bokshiganj Police Station said family members produced the elderly man's National Identity Card and confirmed his identity. After completing legal formalities, he was handed over to his family. However, family members could not clearly explain how he ended up at the border area.
