Elderly man's body recovered from Hatirjheel lake

Police have recovered the floating body of a 65-year-old man from Hatirjheel Lake in Dhaka on Wednesday morning.

The deceased is Md. Azim Uddin, a resident of the Shimulbag area in West Rampura.

The body was found near the lake’s bridge number one, adjacent to the Rainbow Crossing around 8am on Wednesday. According to Sub-Inspector Md. Nazmul Islam of the Hatirjheel Police Station, officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving an alert via the 999 national emergency service. Ansar personnel stationed in the area first spotted the body and alerted local authorities.

Police utilized the national fingerprint identification and verification system to confirm the man’s identity. Following initial processing at the scene, the body was transported to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.

While investigators believe the man likely drowned, Sub-Inspector Islam noted that the exact cause of death remains under investigation. The findings of the autopsy report will be critical in determining whether any other factors contributed to the incident.
