Elderly woman allegedly raped after being lured out of hospital on pretext of feeding

A 60-year-old woman was allegedly raped after being lured out of the Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital on the pretext of being given food. Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the incident.

The incident took place around 3am in an area adjacent to the hospital on Monday night (August 10).

The arrested individuals are Bellal Sikdar, son of Mobarak Ali Sikdar from Krishnakathi village in Sadar, and Nasir Mollick, son of Yusuf Mollick from Bikna village in Basanda union. Police stated that Nasir is a hired motorcycle rider, and Bellal is an auto-rickshaw driver.

Mehedi Hasan, Inspector (Investigation) of Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station, confirmed the arrests.

According to police and the victim, around 3am on Monday, the woman was called out from the hospital's gynaecology ward on the pretext of being fed. She was subsequently taken on a motorcycle to an undisclosed location near the hospital, where the two men allegedly raped her.

On Tuesday morning, the woman returned to the hospital and began crying. Hospital authorities then admitted her and informed the police. Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the hospital, initiated an investigation, and subsequently conducted drives to arrest Bellal and Nasir.

Dr. Masum Iftekhar, Superintendent of Sadar Hospital, stated that the victim was not an admitted patient at the hospital. She was admitted following the incident, and her medical examination has been completed. CCTV footage from the hospital has been handed over to the police for the sake of the investigation.

Inspector Mehedi Hasan of Sadar Police Station said that the victim was admitted to the hospital for a medical examination. Based on the information provided by her, two suspects have been arrested and are being interrogated.

The police official further stated that during interrogation, the two arrested men confessed to their involvement in the crime. The victim's son filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act regarding the incident. Police are investigating whether anyone else was involved.
