Elderly woman succumbs to injuries after state minister’s car hits her in Bogura
An elderly woman died after being injured when a car carrying State Minister for Public Administration and Food Abdul Bari hit her in Shibganj of Bogura.
The accident took place around 8:30am in the Gopinathpur area of the Mokamtola-Joypurhat road earlier in the morning (September 4), police said.
The deceased, Firoza Begum, a resident of Gopinathpur village in Kichak union, died while undergoing treatment at TMSS Medical College Hospital around 11:45am.
According to police and local sources, the state minister and members of his family were travelling from Dhaka towards Joypurhat when the vehicle hit Firoza, who was crossing the road. The driver then lost control and the car veered off the road into a nearby field.
Locals rescued Firoza and took her to TMSS Medical College Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The state minister and his wife also sustained minor injuries in the accident and received first aid, police said.
Ibrahim Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bogura Sadar Police Station, said, "Firoza’s body was kept at the hospital under police custody."
