Elderly woman's body recovered from pond in Cumilla's Brahmanpara

The body of an elderly woman, Safia Khatun (80), was found in a pond in Brahmanpara of Cumilla. Locals found her floating in the water near her house around 6:00 am on Friday (October 11) and rescued the body.

Delwar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Brahmanpara Police Station, confirmed the matter.

Safia was the wife of the late Abdul Gani Mia and the mother of Khorshed Alam Prakash Charu Mia from Manoharpur village. She had been suffering from mental health issues for a long time.

Local police reported that Safia left her house around 3:00 am to go to the bathroom. When she did not return for a long time, her family started searching for her. They even announced her disappearance on the local mosque's microphone during Fajr prayers. It was around 6:00 am when they found her body floating in the pond near Sarafat Ali's house. Family members brought her lifeless body back home.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Rabiul Awal Majumder arrived at the scene and prepared a report on Safia Khatun's condition.

OC Md Delwar Hossain said, "We prepared a report and sent the body of the elderly woman to the mortuary of Cumilla Medical College Hospital. The cause of death will be known after the autopsy report."
