Election Commission cancels contract with BCC
The Election Commission (EC) has terminated the contract with the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) for providing National Identity Card (NID) information to another party in violation of the terms. This information was given in a press release sent by the Election Commission on Sunday.
The press release said, 'The total number of government/private organizations receiving NID information verification services from the Election Commission is 183. Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) is one of them. On October 4, a bilateral agreement was signed between the BCC and the Election Commission regarding information verification through registration. According to the terms of that agreement, the second party (BCC) cannot transfer, exchange, sell or provide the Commission's information to any other person, party or organization in any way under any circumstances, but the BCC has violated it.'
The notice said, 'Although an explanation was sought from the BCC on September 3 in this regard, the BCC refrained from responding. Later, when asked to respond within three working days on October 6, the response given by BCC was deemed unsatisfactory by the Election Commission. On the other hand, since BCC did not pay the applicable fees/charges within the stipulated time as per the agreement, the agreement was deemed to be cancelable by the Election Commission as per the agreement.’
It was further informed, ‘In view of this, the agreement entered into by BCC with the Election Commission on October 4 regarding verification of information and data through registration by decision of the Election Commission has been cancelled on December 20 and the API connection provided to BCC has been disconnected. In addition, BCC has been requested to submit a copy of the invoice after paying all the outstanding fees/charges within 15 days of sending the letter.’
