Election Commission officially registers Amjanatar Dal
The Election Commission (EC) has granted registration to Amjanatar Dal, led by Tarik Rahman, ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The party has been assigned the election symbol “Butterfly,” EC Public Relations Director Ruhul Amin Mallik said on Monday (December 22).
The registration certificate, signed by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, was handed to Amjanatar Dal General Secretary Tarik Rahman on Sunday.
Tarik had staged a hunger strike on November 4 after failing to secure party registration, ending the protest on November 9 after nearly 134 hours, following a request from BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed.
The EC has already announced the election schedule, setting February 12 as polling day. Amjanatar Dal received registration about 10 days after the schedule announcement.
Ahead of the polls, the current EC led by AMM Nasir Uddin registered four parties, including Amjanatar Dal, National Citizen Party (“Shapla Kali”), Bangladesh Socialist Party (Marxist) (“Scissors”), and Janatar Dal (“Pen”).
With this, the total number of registered political parties stands at 57, though the Awami League’s registration remains suspended.
