'Election possible before Ramadan if preparations are complete'
Dr. Khalilur Rahman, National Security Adviser to the interim government, announced that elections are expected to take place by the first half of April next year. If all preparations are finalized on time, it may even be possible to hold the elections in the week before Ramadan begins in 2026.
He emphasized, “Significant progress in reforms and justice will be necessary within that timeframe.”
Dr. Rahman made these remarks during a press conference following a meeting between BNP’s acting chairperson, Tarique Rahman, and chief adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who is currently visiting London.
Khalilur further said that Tarique Rahman welcomed the Chief Adviser’s stance and thanked him on behalf of the party. The Chief Adviser also thanked Tarique Rahman for the fruitful discussion.
At this joint press conference, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury also spoke.
They stated that the meeting was held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere.
The press conference announced that Tarique Rahman proposed to the Chief Adviser to hold elections before Ramadan next year. The party Chairperson, Khaleda Zia, also believes that holding the election at that time would be ideal.
The Chief Adviser mentioned that he has announced elections will take place in the first half of April next year. Tarique Rahman welcomed the Chief Adviser’s decision and expressed gratitude on behalf of the party. The Chief Adviser also thanked Tarique Rahman for the productive discussion.
