Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said the election will be held at the time announced by the Chief Adviser, and no one else has a say in the matter.

He made the remarks on Saturday following a visit to the Mohammadpur Krishi Market in the capital.

Regarding political parties’ demands for a February election, the adviser said, “On political matters, whatever the Chief Adviser has decided is final. No one else can comment on it. The election will take place in the month he specified, and we don’t need to pay attention to what others say.”

Commenting on the market situation, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “Vegetable prices have risen slightly due to heavy rainfall. However, potato stocks have increased because of storage. A 4–5 taka price difference for potatoes exists between Karwan Bazar and other markets, affecting both farmers and consumers. If farmers don’t receive a fair price, potato cultivation may decline, which could drive prices up again. Middlemen prevent farmers from earning a proper price and cause consumers to pay more.”

He also addressed the issue of plastic use, saying, “Plastic offers no benefits. It harms our soil and often traps water, and it does not decompose easily. If we stop using plastic and switch to jute bags, farmers will benefit and the environment will be protected. We therefore urge everyone to use jute bags.”
