Election to be held in first week of February: Press Secretary
The interim government is committed to holding the national election in the first week of February, said Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the Chief Adviser. “The government is working toward this goal, and all previous doubts have been cleared. The nation is now ready for the election,” he added.
Alam made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with journalists at the Mymensingh Press Club on Friday afternoon. The event was attended by the club’s Vice President Md. Nawab Ali, General Secretary Saiful Islam, and journalists from print and electronic media.
He noted that political parties have extensively discussed the July certificate and have now reached a consensus. “Very soon, all parties will meet to finalize the arrangements,” Alam said.
The press secretary also announced that an official declaration regarding the signing of the July certificate is expected on October 15. After the signing, all political parties in the country will begin preparations for the election. Several parties have already announced their nominations. Alam expressed optimism that Bangladesh will embark on a new chapter of politics through healthy and constructive engagement.
Highlighting the integrity of the upcoming polls, Alam said, “Previous elections were not genuine, but this time, the election will be free and fair. Among all elections held in Bangladesh, this one will be the best.”
