Elections in December or January: EC Machud
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has said that the national election will be held on time as per the announcement of the chief adviser and it may be held in December this year or January next year.
He made the observation at a views-exchange meeting at district election office in Patuakhali on Thursday (January 23). The meeting was organised on the occasion of updating the voter list.
Regarding the upcoming elections, the EC said, "We are working to ensure fair and acceptable elections. Currently, our full focus is on the national elections. The national elections will be held in late 2025 or early 2026 and voting will be organised through ballots.”
Regarding the update of the voter list, he said, “Some 35,000 data collectors are working across the country to update the voter list. Those who are collecting data in this regard should show more responsibility. In many cases, there are mistakes in the voter list, due to which people are not able to avail services. Everyone's cooperation is needed in this regard.”
EC Masud said, “We want to hold a fair and acceptable election free from any kind of influence. There is no opportunity to be influenced in any way.”
He said that the election commission is not thinking about local elections now.
Senior Election Officer Khan Abi Shahanur Khan presided over the meeting attended by election officers of all upazilas of Patuakhali district and media representatives.
