Elections possible in December: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that national elections are possible in December, calling it the most suitable time for the country.
He made the remarks on Saturday (June 7) while paying homage at the shrine of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman in Dhaka, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
“We have always demanded elections by December, and that was the expectation of the people as well,” said Mirza Fakhrul. “Unfortunately, that expectation was not fulfilled. The timing that has been set is not appropriate.”
Criticizing the proposed election timeline, he added, “Holding elections in April is not suitable due to fasting, extreme weather, and public examinations. This so-called roadmap was not planned thoughtfully.”
Earlier, BNP leaders offered prayers and sought forgiveness for the soul of Ziaur Rahman. Senior members of the party’s standing committee and affiliated organizations were also present there.
