Electoral reform proposals: BNP wants second chamber in parliament
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has proposed amendments in 62 areas of the constitution, including introducing the provision to limit the tenure of a prime minister to not more than two terms in a row.
The proposals also include establishing roles for a deputy prime minister, deputy president, a second chamber in the parliament, and introducing provisions for referendums, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed told media at the parliament on Tuesday morning (26 November).
Earlier on the day, a BNP delegation visited the Parliament building and met Dr Ali Riaz, head of the reform commission, to submit their proposals for constitutional reform.
Briefing the media afterwards, Salahuddin said BNP's proposals emphasise the concept of a "balance of power."
