Electric shock claims 2 lives, injures 8 in Rangpur

Two people died and at least eight others were injured after being electrocuted in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur on Sunday night.

The victims have been identified as Shahabuddin (45) from Itakumari in Pirgacha and Shariful Islam (35) from Mithapukur.

According to locals, a fertilizer shop inauguration ceremony was held in the Shahabaj Amtola area, organized by Nazar Ali, a follower of Atarshi Pir. Followers from surrounding areas attended the event. During the ceremony, a sudden storm caused a temporary electrical connection to electrify the event area, resulting in at least ten people getting injured.

Seven of the seriously wounded were rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared two of them dead.

Kaunia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Latif Shah confirmed the deaths and said that necessary actions are underway.
