Electrocution at madrasa injures 7, including students
Seven people, including six madrasa students, suffered burns after being electrocuted while trying to retrieve clothes that had fallen from a rooftop in Brahmanbaria. Six of the injured have been sent to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for advanced treatment.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 29, afternoon at Darun Najat Women’s Madrasa in the Bhaddarghor area of the district town.
The injured were identified as madrasa students Sadia Khatun, Rowza Akhter, Jannatul Mawa, Umme Taisan, and two students named Nusrat, along with Aleya, a staff member of the madrasa.
According to madrasa sources, some students’ clothes had fallen onto an electric wire from the rooftop of the four-storey building. Aleya tried to retrieve the clothes through a window using a long steel pipe. As soon as the pipe touched the clothes, it came into contact with the live electric wire, electrocuting her. Sparks from the wire then spread inside the room, burning six students.
